Gothenburg native Jennie moved to Tibro – and brought her extended family along.
It was her family Jennie thought she, her husband, and their children would miss the most when they left Gothenburg. But just a couple of months later, both her parents and her sister, with her nephew, followed. Today, they all love living in Tibro.

Jennie Glarbjerg
- What?
- Gothenburg residents who left the big city for nature and tranquility in Tibro.
Jennie Glarbjerg is originally from Gothenburg, where she and her husband started their family and built their lives. But when the couple realized they weren’t really taking advantage of everything the city had to offer—instead seeking out nature whenever they had time off and wanted to relax—they began to wonder if the city was really the right place for them.
Jennie’s husband grew up in Skövde, and the couple started looking into the possibility of settling in Skaraborg to be closer to nature and have the chance to buy a house.
“I was so anxious about telling my parents and sister that we were planning to move. We spent a lot of time together, and the thought of not being able to do that in the same way felt really tough.”
But when the family found a house they instantly fell in love with, the decision to move to Tibro was made. And it didn’t take long before Jennie received unexpected news.
“Just a few weeks after we signed the purchase agreement for our house, my mom called to say they had started looking for an apartment in Tibro. They had decided to move too!”

And it didn’t stop there. When Jennie’s sister, who had been looking for a vacation home, learned that the family was moving to Tibro, she started searching for a small holiday home nearby. But what she found instead was a permanent home she couldn’t resist. So now she and her son have also moved to Tibro.
“My sister was already looking for a vacation home before we decided to move, but when she and my husband went to see a house in Tibro, the choice became pretty easy.”
For the past few months, the whole family has been living in Tibro—well, almost.
“I have a brother who lives in Uppsala, but we’re working on him too,” Jennie laughs.
Nature, Peace, and Strong Community Spirit
So how does this former Gothenburg resident feel about life in Tibro?
“Tibro is incredibly charming! There’s a huge commitment to leisure activities here. And there are no waiting lists! Whenever we’ve reached out about the kids wanting to start different sports, they’ve been able to join practices right away. It’s accessible and welcoming!”
Jennie explains that her oldest daughter was a bit skeptical about the move. Leaving her friends and the riding school she loved was tough. But now, after a few months, everything is great.
“We had excellent communication with the teachers when she started school and got updates about how things were going every day, which was really reassuring. And she also got a spot at the riding school here. Now she’s just as happy as the rest of us!”
One of the biggest differences between Jennie’s life in Gothenburg and Tibro is the closeness to nature and the sense of calm. In Tibro, everything—home, work, school, and leisure activities—is just a short distance away, which reduces everyday stress.
Now we don’t even need to use the car—we can bike or walk almost everywhere. It’s a huge difference between cycling through nature and sitting in traffic when you need to get somewhere. Before, it took us 45 minutes to drive to the riding school; now we get there via bike paths through lush landscapes—guess which feels better!”

A “Dream Job”
When the family moved to Skaraborg, Jennie initially planned to keep working in Gothenburg. But commuting turned out to take more time than she was willing to give up, and soon she switched to a job in Tibro.
Shortly after that, another opportunity came up: Public Health Strategist for Tibro Municipality. Jennie, who has a degree in health sciences, applied and got the job.
“I never have Sunday anxiety—this is truly a dream job! There’s so much happening in Tibro to promote equal health. Right now, there’s a project to develop the town center with a focus on creating meeting places across generations. There will be something for both young and old. I think it’s going to be an amazing gathering spot for Tibro residents! Since Tibro isn’t very big, there’s a sense of community here that you don’t find in Gothenburg, where everything is so large and inaccessible. Here, everything is close!”
And Jennie isn’t the only one happy with her new job. Her husband, mother, and sister have all found new jobs too.
“It’s just my dad who still commutes to Gothenburg. But I think he’s open to suggestions as well,” Jennie laughs.
